What do you want to do when you grow up?

Have you always wondered what is it that you want to do when you “grow up”? Was it easy to choose one thing? Or did you have too many options? Or did you feel like there is nothing you would like to do?

I’ve always had many different dreams and interests, and they have absolutely nothing to do with each other. And then at school (and basically everywhere) I’ve been told to choose. “Choose the one that interests you the most” or “Choose ExperienceLifethe one you are best at”. “Specialise.” “Become an expert at that one thing.” What if I’m equally interested in all of them? And find something new tomorrow again?

It was incredibly difficult to choose what to study after high school. I actually liked high school because there I was able to study so many different subjects from drama and music to geography and religions. And everything in between. AND I was good at all of them.

Eventually I decided to go to study Drama (and train to be a yoga teacher at the same time, heh). It was sooooooo boring to concentrate on one subject that I quit it after few months. I thought I would study something else, like Occupational Therapy because it had something to do with yoga and working with people.

Well, that didn’t go quite as planned! The summer before the Occupational Therapy Course was about to start, I started my own business, pretty much by accident. Creating and running my own business finally allowed me to combine everything I know! I was finally able to be all I am! You might guess that I didn’t go to study Occupational Therapy…

Just please be aware that there are different kinds of people. Some people are really, really good at one thing, and they will probably end up specialising to that one thing. That’s cool. Then there are people who just like to do everything. That’s cool too. And so many other possibilities as well!

In any case, don’t make yourself wrong for what you are. You came here to be exactly who you are, not someone else. It is your own, unique being that this world requires. Your difference. Nothing exactly like you has never existed before. You exist now for a reason, even if you have absolutely no clue what that is. Yet.

Just choose what you like to do, what is fun for you, what is interesting for you. Maybe it is one thing, maybe it is then things.

Stop listening to other people, they haven’t lived your life, how can they know what works for you? You are the only person who can know that.

You don’t have to stick to one thing. You can always choose again! It’s okay to change your mind. Changing your mind doesn’t mean that you failed. If anything, it means that you learned what you required from that thing, and now it’s time to move on.

As Dr. Dain Heer always says; What if you are the gift and the change this world has been looking for?

I still find new things I want to do all the time. And it’s okay.
